Charlottenburg Gate

シャロッテンブルグゲート
By Alexander (CC)
Charlottenburg Gate was build in 1907 to honor King Frederick I of Prussia. King Frederick was the first Prussian king. Adolf Hitler almost destroyed the Baroque style gate in the 1930s when Germany build huge stadiums and more emphasizing the Grecian style of architecture. Allied air raids in the 1940s almost destroyed it too, but Charlottenburg Gate survived. Charlottenburg Gate is on the same road as Brandenburg Gate, only two miles away. Brandenburg Gate was in what was West Berlin after World War II and became a symbol of the city. Charlottenburg Gate was in what was East Berlin and was not as well-known. Today, Brandenburg Gate remains the better known gate.
