Hohenschwangau Castle is located in Bavaria in Southern Germany. A literal translation of the castle's German name provides the poetic English name of Castle of the High Swan County. King Maximilian II of Bavaria built this castle in the 19th century. His son, King Ludwig II of Bavaria, lived there as a child and as an adult while he watched his own castle, Neuschwanstein, being built. Neuschwanstein has appeared in several movies and inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle.
